Has anyone heard of giving heparin before gallbladder removal? If so why? SUSAN H asked: I am scheduled for surgery on Friday. The nurse called me and told me that I would be given a pre-op shot of heparin. I have had 2 prior abdominal surgeries and have never had heparin. I do not know of one person who has had heparin before gallbladder surgery.
